Robotic Surgery

Hannon Orthopedics is proud to offer MAKO Robotic Arm Assisted Total Joint Replacement, a highly advanced technology which has transformed how joint replacements are done.

The MAKO Surgical Robot allows the surgeon to provide you with a personalized surgical experience in performing partial knee replacement and total knee replacement.

The MAKO procedure begins by obtaining a CT (CAT) scan of your affected joint. This CT scan data is utilized in order to generate a 3 dimensional model of the patient’s own unique knee anatomy. This model is uploaded in the MAKO software, allowing your surgeon to create a specialized preoperative plan for you and your surgery.

Your surgeon guides the MAKO Robotic Arm in surgery according to the preoperative plan. This allows for an unprecedented level of accuracy and precision when placing the implants. The robotic arm also provides an extra layer of safety by protecting the soft tissues as it is only allowed to move within certain preset boundaries.

It’s important to understand that the surgery is performed by your orthopaedic surgeon, who guides the robotic-arm during the surgery to position the implant in the knee. The Mako Robotic-Arm does not perform surgery, make decisions on its own, or move without the surgeon guiding it. The Mako System also allows your surgeon to make adjustments to your plan during surgery as needed.
