Shoulder Arthoscopy

Minimally invasive shoulder arthroscopy

Just as knee arthroscopy revolutionized knee procedures and improved recovery times and outcomes for people with damaged knees, it also revolutionized shoulder surgery for the orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine doctor. Shoulder arthroscopy is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that allows Dr. Hannon to repair shoulder injuries, from a rotator cuff tear to impingement to shoulder instability, a torn labrum or a torn ligament. He performs the Bankart repair procedure to reattach and tighten torn labrums and ligaments.

Rotator cuff tear

Rotator cuff tear is a common sports injury that can happen to athletes and non-athletes alike. The rotator cuff is actually a group of muscles and tendons that form a cuff over the ball-and-socket shoulder joint. The rotator cuff holds the arm inside the joint and facilitates shoulder movement in different directions. When it is overused or injured, pain and loss of function can occur.

Shoulder instability

Shoulder instability is common. A torn labrum is damage to the cartilage lining the rim of your shoulder joint. The ligaments around the joint can also be damaged.

A Bankart lesion is a labral tear along the lower portion of the shoulder joint. A SLAP lesion involves the top portion of the shoulder joint. These shoulder injuries can cause shoulder instability and need to be repaired with shoulder arthroscopy.

More serious shoulder injuries may require a total shoulder replacement.
